The black rose is an emblem of sorrow, the red rose an emblem of love

This phrase - the title of an old movie - sticks in many people's minds. But is it really so? Let's turn to the floral alphabet. The meaning of some flowers has been formed since the times of ancient Greece, when numerous "criminal showdowns" of local gods and heroes usually ended with the transformation of the victim into a plant. Since then, the narcissus has been a symbol of self-love, while the adonis is a symbol of sorrow and rebirth.

So to answer the question of which flowers are the symbol of friendship would be quite difficult. There are many answers.

What does the fountain at the All-Russian Exhibition Center say?

The floral symbolism of friendship between peoples was most vividly displayed in the sculpture. At the Exhibition of Economic Achievements (VDNKh - All-Russia Exhibition Center) in Moscow there is the famous Fountain of Friendship of Peoples, also known as the Golden Sheaf. The unity and friendship of all peoples of the USSR is symbolized by a sheaf of wheat ears with the inclusion of unexpected sunflowers and hemp. Numerous flower alphabets repeat: the sunflower is the symbol of the sun. But this is an American plant, a recent visitor. Do we know the significance the Sioux Indians gave to the sunflower? And why hemp? Not without reason, the symbolism of the fountain "Friendship of Peoples" has not yet been solved, and what exactly the symbols of friendship are encrypted in it, absolutely not known.

How to make it yourself?

To make a talisman of friendship, you must first determine for yourself what kind of amulet is better to give to your loved one or best friend. This can be a bracelet on the arm, a special pendant, a rune pendant or a ring.

If conceived to give a friend runu-pendant, you can make it from an ordinary piece of wood. At him with the help of burning or carving the wood should portray one of the runu signs: runu Algiz (strengthens the honest friendship), runu Kenaz (assists in strengthening relationships) or runu Gebo (considered a talisman of partnership).

Runu-pendant can be made from other natural materials - stone or glass. The stone for the rune-pendant is chosen so that it carries a positive energy and attracts the friendship of good people.

Will a Japanese understand a Bashkir?

In Bashkiria, for example, the national flag depicts a kurai flower (which looks more like the umbrella flower of the common ground elder). In the republic it is a symbol of friendship between the peoples of Bashkiria. There are seven of them, each with its own history of living on the territory of the republic.

flowers a symbol of friendship
Bashkiria, by the way, is the most interesting example of the friendship of peoples as the respect for mutual sovereignty. If we remember all the historical arrangements of Russia with its constituent peoples and lands, then, strange as it may seem, the most rigid conditions of autonomy and even confederation were defended for themselves by the Bashkirs, Chechens and Aleuts. And this peculiarity in the old legal status makes the offer of friendship from the Bashkirs especially valuable.

Back to the Japanese. Our flower alphabets suggest seeing the symbols of friendship in chrysanthemums. The explanation is clear: the flower is inexpensive and is usually given to just anyone, so they advertise it at least that way. If you look deeper, the orchid, the myrtle, the violet, and even the yellow rose are all named as symbols of friendship.

But what does the chrysanthemum actually symbolize for the Japanese? It does not look like a symbol of friendship. The chrysanthemum is a symbol of imperial power and is depicted on the imperial seal.

Learning to weave a bright friendship bracelet with their own hands in the master class

So, we will need:

  • Mulberry thread of two colors.
  • The bracelet is convenient to fix somewhere, so when weaving it will not be twisted. For this you will need some kind of press, clip or tape.
  • Scissors.

For weaving one bracelet, we will need about 8 strands of 60 cm each. We need to prepare 4 strands of each color. Take them in turns and make a knot, leave a tail approx. 8 cm long.

Secure the threads with a clip, for example, or tape to a board. Spread the threads out on two sides. On each side there should be two threads of one color, two of the other. Arrange them so that the threads alternate colors, and at the edges are the same color, as in the photo.

Take the leftmost thread and wrap it around the second thread. Pull it all the way up, so you have a knot. You will need to tie two of these in a row all the time.

Do the same around the third and fourth thread. This way the outermost thread should be in the middle.

Now similarly tie knots on the right side. So now the two outermost threads will be in the middle of the bracelet. So we finished the first row of the bracelet.

The second row is repeated, only now the leading threads will be the second color.

The third row will start to form a heart: the second left thread (it is blue on the photo) is tying double knots around the rightmost (red on the photo) thread. Don't forget to make two knots all the time!

Do the same on the right side.

Now take the second thread from the left (red in the photo) and tie it around the third and fourth thread, moving it in this way to the center. Do the same on the right side.

Now use the second thread to tie the leftmost thread with two knots. Again repeat the action on the right side.

And with the second thread on the left and right toward the center tie the third and fourth threads. So we fill the heart with color.

Now we make two regular rows, as in the beginning. One row with red thread, the second with blue. Our heart is woven. So now you need to continue to the end of the braid. When the lasso reaches the desired length, make a knot from the threads and cut off the extra ends.

Your bracelet with hearts is ready.Bracelet of friendship with elastic bands.

Friendship bracelet can also be spun from elastic bands, which are now very common and very popular.

To weave bracelets with rubber bands it is better to buy such a set, because it contains a special machine and all the necessary elements.

However, if you do not have such a set, and rubber bands and the desire to have, the simplest version of the bracelet can be weaved even on the fingers.

For this you will need:

  • 1 clip to connect the bracelet.
  • Approximately 50 pieces of rubber bands
  • FingersJ .

You can use different colors of rubber bands.

So, take three rubber bands. One of them put on your index and middle fingers in a figure eight.

The second and third put, without twisting, evenly.

Now take the rubber band, which you pulled in a figure of eight, by the edges and drop it from your fingers. It is "stuck" on the other two rubber bands, forming a kind of loop.

Now put on top of one rubber band, not twisting, and the bottom - dump off your fingers.

Thus weave the bracelet to form the required size.

When the desired length is reached, the bracelet will need to be secured with a clip. To do this, fasten the clip on one side by the last link, and on the other side - by the loop (it will be the second from the bottom). The loop, which was folded "figure eight", carefully cut it with scissors and remove it from the chain.

Bracelet with a "fishtail" pattern is ready.

To weave more complicated rubber band patterns, of course, you will need a special device such as a loom or slingshot.

You can watch video lessons or take a master class on weaving unusual patterns with mouliné thread.

Do we need a general flower alphabet?

More or less universal rules for the use of flowers signifying symbols of friendship give us diplomatic practice. It is considered polite to decorate the reception with plants that match the hues of the guest's flag. It would be rude to use a flower whose meaning for at least one of the parties would be unacceptable. For example, hydrangeas in some countries are a symbol of grief. Probably no one would create a floral Esperanto that way. Is it really necessary? It's always more exciting to solve a floral riddle than to use unified semantic units.
